These cities experience the biggest increase in tourism
The map shows the total amount of nights spent in accommodations in major European cities (bubbles) as well as the relative increase of these overnight stays since 2018 (spikes).
The Eurostat data shows the number of nights for the number of people for whom the accommodation was booked. For example, if a family of four stays two nights in one place, this is counted as eight nights. The data is focused on short-term stays like apartments and holiday homes and excludes hotels. Hotels are defined by Eurostat as establishments that provide furnished short-stay accommodation with daily cleaning, bed-making, and food and beverage services.
